How to make a Facebook ad mockup

  1. Add your media. Choose or drop the image or video you plan to run. The tool reads it in your browser; nothing is sent to a server. Until you add your own, a sample ad for a made-up tote bag brand fills the preview.
  2. Fill in the ad. Add a profile picture, your Page name, the primary text, headline, description, call-to-action button and the domain of your landing page.
  3. Pick a placement. Switch between Facebook Feed, Instagram Feed, Stories and Reels. For Stories and Reels, choose the Facebook or Instagram layout.
  4. Read the checks. The counters compare each field with Meta's recommended length for the placement, the box under the primary text shows exactly which words hide behind "See more", and a note appears when your media ratio does not match what the placement recommends.
  5. Download the PNG. Choose a light or dark screen, with or without the phone frame, and save the mockup at 2x resolution for a client, a teammate or an approval thread. For a video, the PNG shows the frame on screen when you click.

The label under the Page name can read Ad or Sponsored. Meta is gradually replacing the Sponsored label with Ad, so you may see either in the wild.

Facebook ad text and media guidance by placement

Meta's text lengths are recommendations, not hard limits. Text longer than the recommended length may be truncated, and it can be cut further on some placements and devices. File size, minimum width and aspect ratio tolerance are technical requirements.

Instagram Reels9:16, 1440 x 2560 px44 charactersNot listed1.91:1, 16:9, 1:1, 4:5, 2:3

For most placements, Meta recommends 125 characters of primary text, 40 for the headline and 25 for the description. In the mockup, the description and link domain appear under the image in Facebook Feed.

Files: Facebook Feed images should be JPG or PNG, up to 30MB, at least 600 pixels wide, with a 3% aspect ratio tolerance. Videos can be MP4, MOV or GIF up to 4GB. On computers, Facebook Feed shows video at 1:1, which can add black bars to a 4:5 video.

Stories and Reels safe zone: Meta suggests leaving roughly 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side free of text, logos and other key elements, so the profile icon and button do not cover them. For Facebook Stories video, Meta gives 14% at the top and 20% at the bottom. Turn on "Show safe zone" in the tool to see the 14/35/6 guide on your creative. The full spec list is in our Meta ads specs guide.

How to write Facebook ad copy that survives See more

Meta does not publish a fixed character count for the "See more" cut. Phones cut by lines and screen width, so Meta advises keeping primary text to 1 to 3 lines at most. This mockup cuts Feed text at 125 characters, the length Meta recommends for most placements, and shows you the hidden part.

  • Make the first line work alone. Put the product, the benefit and the offer in the opening sentence. Assume nothing after it gets read.
  • Plan for the shortest placement. Meta recommends only 40 characters of primary text for Facebook Reels and 44 for Instagram Reels. If one ad runs everywhere, the opening words have to carry it. Meta's placement asset customization lets you use shorter copy for placements such as Stories.
  • Do not park key facts in the headline. Meta lists no headline for Instagram Stories or Instagram Reels, and it recommends only 27 characters for the headline in Facebook Feed. Price, offer or deadline belongs in the primary text or on the creative.
  • Count line breaks as lost space. A blank line between short paragraphs uses a whole line of the few that show before the cut.
  • Match the button to the page. Shop now for a product page, Sign up for a form, Get offer for a promotion. The mockup lists the 24 buttons Meta offers for both Sales and Traffic ads that point to a website.

How to check a Facebook ad before launch

  1. One version per shape. Make a 4:5 version for Feed and a 9:16 version for Stories and Reels. Without them, Ads Manager fills the gaps with padding, media expansion, cropping or AI features, so review the automatic crops before you publish.
  2. Clear the safe zone. Nothing important in the top 14%, bottom 35% or outer 6% of a 9:16 creative.
  3. Read it at phone size, in light and dark. Text on the image that looks fine on a monitor can be unreadable at 320 pixels wide. Switch the mockup to the dark screen too.
  4. Check the cut. Read only what shows before "See more" and ask whether it still sells.
  5. Check the footer rules for video. With the Awareness objective, or performance goals such as reach or 2-second video views, the headline, description and button do not show under video ads in Facebook Feed on mobile.
  6. Check what Meta may change. Some Advantage+ creative enhancements are on by default and can adjust the text you upload. Review them, or turn them off, in Ads Manager.
  7. Finish in Ads Manager. This mockup is for planning, feedback and approvals. The preview in Meta Ads Manager is the final word on how the ad renders.

Make the ad and run the campaign with CamClo AI

If you still need the creative, Image Ads in CamClo AI turns a product photo into finished image ads in the ratio you pick, including 4:5 for Feed and 9:16 for Stories and Reels, as single images or carousels, with optional text on the image.

When the ad is ready, Ad Autopilot plans, publishes and manages Meta and Google Ads campaigns within limits you set. Campaigns publish paused so you can review them first, budget changes move in steps of 20% or less, daily and monthly caps are never exceeded, and bigger moves such as new spend or new markets wait for your approval.

Need the ad itself?

Image Ads turns a product photo into finished image ads in the ratio each placement needs: 4:5 for Feed and 9:16 for Stories and Reels.

Questions

Is this Facebook ad mockup generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. It runs entirely in your browser, so your image, video and text are never uploaded to a server.

How many characters show before See more on a Facebook ad?

Meta does not publish a fixed cut-off. It recommends 50 to 150 characters of primary text for Facebook Feed and 125 characters for most placements, and text may be cut further depending on placement and device. This mockup cuts Feed text at 125 characters, so keep the message you need people to see in that first stretch.

What size should a Facebook ad image be?

For Facebook Feed, Meta recommends a 4:5 image at 1440 x 1800 pixels, JPG or PNG, up to 30MB and at least 600 pixels wide. For Facebook Stories and Reels, it recommends 9:16 at 1440 x 2560 pixels.

Which call-to-action buttons can I use on Facebook ads?

It depends on your objective, conversion location, placement and industry. For Sales and Traffic ads that send people to a website, Meta offers buttons such as Shop now, Learn more, Sign up, Order now, Book now, Get offer, See details, Subscribe and Contact us. The mockup includes the 24 buttons Meta offers for both objectives in Facebook Feed.

Why does my Facebook ad say Ad instead of Sponsored?

Meta is gradually replacing the Sponsored label with Ad, so both appear for now. The mockup lets you show either label.

Is the mockup exactly what people will see?

No. It is a close approximation drawn with generic shapes and icons, not Meta's own renderer, and it is not made or endorsed by Meta. Layouts change with the device, app version and ad settings, so check the preview in Meta Ads Manager before you publish.
