Instagram carousel splitter

Free. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

A seamless carousel is one wide image cut into slides, so the picture carries on from one slide to the next as people swipe. Upload a panorama or a wide design, pick the slide shape, and download every slide at 1080 pixels wide.

Shape of each slide

Every slide in a carousel takes the shape of the first one, so all slides share one shape.

Your image is cut into 3 slides of 1080 x 1350 px that join up as people swipe.

How to use the carousel splitter

  1. Upload a wide image, or paste it. It stays in your browser.
  2. Pick the slide shape. 4:5 (1080 x 1350) is the usual portrait post and takes up more of the screen than a square. 3:4 (1080 x 1440) is taller still, and 1:1 (1080 x 1080) is square.
  3. Set the number of slides. The tool suggests the number that fits your image best; change it with the slider.
  4. Move the image up and down or left and right if part of it is cut off.
  5. Download all slides as a ZIP, or one by one on a phone, then add them to one post in number order.

Seamless carousel sizes

Every slide in a carousel has the same shape: the shape you pick applies to every photo in the post. So a seamless carousel is a single image as wide as all the slides together.

Instagram takes up to 20 photos and videos in one post. Instagram shows posts at up to 1080 pixels wide, so a slide narrower than that is enlarged; the tool warns you when your image is too small for sharp slides.

  • A product line-up: a collection laid out on one long surface, one product per slide.
  • A swipe-to-reveal: the first slide sets up a question or a teaser and the last one shows the answer, the product or the offer.
  • A panorama of a shop, a shoot location or a landscape, with your product placed in it.
  • A how-to that runs left to right, one step per slide, with arrows that cross the cut lines.

Make the first slide strong on its own: it is the only one people see before they decide to swipe. Keep text and faces away from the cut lines, so nothing is split between two slides.

Questions

How do I make a seamless carousel on Instagram?

Start from one wide image, cut it into equal slides here, and add the slides to a single post in number order. Pick the same shape for every slide, which Instagram does for you once you choose it.

What size is a seamless Instagram carousel?

1080 pixels wide per slide, times the number of slides. A 3-slide carousel of 4:5 slides is 3240 x 1350 pixels; of square slides, 3240 x 1080.

How many slides can an Instagram carousel have?

Up to 20 photos and videos in one post. The splitter makes 2 to 20 slides.

Why does my carousel not line up?

Usually the slides were added in the wrong order or cropped again in the app. Add them as they are numbered and keep Instagram's crop at the shape you chose, without zooming.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The slides are cut on your own device in the browser and saved straight to your downloads.
