HeyGen's cheapest paid plan is Creator at $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, with 600 credits. The Free plan costs $0 and makes up to 3 videos a month, each up to 1 minute long. Since HeyGen stopped selling its Unlimited plans after May 15, 2026, every video on a new paid plan is metered in credits, so what you really pay depends on the avatar model and the length of each video.

- Enterprise (quote): no length limit, the fastest processing, SCIM, multi-workspace control, proofreader seats, a dedicated success manager and invoice billing.
What changed when Unlimited plans ended
HeyGen's help center says its Unlimited plans are no longer offered past May 15, 2026. Until then, paid plans made unlimited Avatar III videos and gave a smaller pool of Premium Credits for the newer models. The credit plans replace both with one balance that every feature draws from.

From HeyGen's legacy plans article and its credit plans article. The credit plans article says Business accounts get 10 custom avatar slots by default, and that new Business purchases in some regions from August 6, 2026 get 5; the pricing page shows 5.
HeyGen says the new Creator has three times the monthly credits of the old one: 600 against 200 Premium Credits. With an Avatar IV photo look, that is 37.5 minutes a month instead of 12.5. The people who lose are heavy Avatar III users. The legacy plans made Avatar III unlimited; the same $29 now covers 150 minutes of it at most.
If you are still on a legacy plan:
- Stay if most of your videos use Avatar III or audio-only dubbing. Both remain free and unlimited on legacy plans.
- Consider switching if you mostly use Avatar IV or V. HeyGen recommends it for those users, and legacy Premium Credits now cost the same per-minute rates as the credit plans.
- Know it is one-way. Once you cancel a legacy plan or move to a credit plan, you cannot return to it. HeyGen's legacy article also warns that a failed renewal payment on a Team plan cancels it.

What a HeyGen credit buys
Most video features are charged per minute of finished output. HeyGen's own example (for Custom Expressive Motion) charges a 30-second scene half the per-minute rate, and we assume the same proration for short videos in the tables below. The cost per minute below uses Creator's monthly price: $29 for 600 credits, about 4.8 cents a credit.

Some features cost a flat amount per generation instead:
- Generated video clips (B-roll): Seedance 2 costs 60 credits per clip at 720p and 150 at 1080p, and Veo 3 costs 90 per clip, whatever the length.
- Images and looks: 2 credits per generated image, 1 credit per generated avatar Look, 60 credits to train a custom AI model on your photos, 3 credits per Motion Designer asset.
- Upscaling: 1 credit per second of video to 1080p, 2 credits per second to 4K.
- Instant Highlights: 1 credit per 5 minutes of video.
Some third-party pricing guides quote other figures, such as 20 credits a minute for Avatar IV, which HeyGen's own tables do not show. The rates above are the ones in HeyGen's help center when we checked. HeyGen says usage can vary with the feature, model, duration or generation type, and that it shows the credit cost in the app before you generate, so check that number before you render.

Our arithmetic from HeyGen's listed rates. Cost per ad uses Pro 1,000 on monthly billing ($49 for 1,000 credits, 4.9 cents a credit); Creator works out at 4.8 cents, or 4.0 cents billed yearly.
Two things stand out. First, the avatar model matters more than the plan: an Avatar V presenter costs 12 times as much per minute as Avatar III with a video look. Second, generated B-roll is where budgets go. Each Seedance 2 or Veo 3 clip is a flat charge whatever its length, so three 1080p cutaways turn a 24-credit ad into a 474-credit one.
A month of ads, worked through: 20 thirty-second ads with an Avatar V presenter use 480 credits. Translating each into 3 more languages with lip-sync adds 180, for 660 in total. That is more than Creator's 600, and Creator cannot buy extra credits, so you need Pro 1,000 at $49. Add one 720p Seedance 2 clip to each ad and the month needs 1,860 credits, which means the 2,000-credit tier at $99. Each new generation uses credits, so leave room for retakes.
Pro tiers and the real price per credit
Pro is one plan with ten credit tiers. All tiers have the same features; only the monthly credits change, and you can switch tiers at any time.

What the table shows:
- Bigger tiers barely cut the unit price. A credit costs 4.9 cents on the smallest Pro tier and 4.3 cents on the largest. The 1,500, 2,000 and 3,000 tiers cost slightly more per credit than 1,000.
- Yearly billing saves more than moving up. It takes 16 to 17% off Creator and every Pro tier, and about 20% off Business.
- Creator billed yearly is good value per credit. At $288 for 7,200 credits it works out at 4.0 cents a credit, matched by the 5,000 and 7,500 Pro tiers on yearly billing and beaten only from 10,000 credits up.
- The old Pro price now buys 2,000 credits. $99 a month used to include unlimited Avatar III plus 2,000 Premium Credits; it now buys the 2,000-credit tier.
Business and Enterprise pricing
Business costs $149 a month for the first seat, or $119 a month billed yearly ($1,428 a year), plus $20 a month for each extra seat. It includes 1,500 credits a month that the whole workspace shares. Extra seats do not add credits: a five-person team pays $149 plus 4 seats at $20, or $229 a month, and still shares 1,500 credits.
Per credit, Business is the most expensive plan: $149 for 1,500 credits is about 9.9 cents, double Pro's rate. You are paying for the team features (shared workspace, review and commenting, SAML/SSO, SCORM export, LMS integrations, interactive video) and for top-ups. Business is the only plan that can buy extra credits, at $5 per 100, with optional auto-reload. The same team needing 2,000 credits a month would pay $229 plus five 100-credit blocks, $254 in total.
Enterprise has no published price. HeyGen's plan article says it may include custom usage and credit terms, with no standard self-serve credit tier, plus SCIM provisioning, multi-workspace control, unlimited voice clones and invoice billing.
Rollover, top-ups and plan changes
- Monthly billing: unused credits roll over for one more billing cycle, so a credit lasts up to about 60 days, as long as you stay on a paid plan.
- Yearly billing: credits still arrive monthly (1,000 each month on a yearly Pro 1,000 plan, for example), but they build up until your annual renewal date.
- Order of use: HeyGen spends the credits closest to expiring first.
- Cancelling: you keep your plan and credits until the end of the billing cycle, then move to Free, and unused credits do not carry over.
- Running out: Creator cannot buy credits and must upgrade to Pro. Pro cannot buy one-time packs and must move to a higher tier. Business can buy 100-credit blocks or turn on auto-reload.
- Upgrading mid-cycle: you pay the price difference and get the credit difference at once. HeyGen's example: Creator bought on 1 January, upgraded to Pro 1,000 on 20 January, is charged $20 and receives 400 credits that day.
- Downgrading: usually takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Pausing a plan postpones the next charge by 30 days; it does not pause indefinitely.
Add-ons and API pricing
Two add-ons sit outside the plans. Extra video avatar slots cost $29 a month or $288 a year, and LiveAvatar slots cost $49 a month on HeyGen's separate LiveAvatar platform.
The HeyGen API is a separate, pay-as-you-go account in US dollars. Anyone can buy API credits, including Free users, with no subscription. HeyGen stopped giving free API credits in February 2026, and pay-as-you-go API credits expire 12 months after purchase. Usage is charged by the actual seconds generated:

The API costs far more per minute than a plan. Avatar V through the API is $7.20 a minute; inside the app it is 48 credits, about $2.32 on Creator. If you only need to trigger videos from HubSpot, Clay, Zapier, Make or n8n, HeyGen's credits article says those integrations can now spend plan credits instead of API credits.
Which HeyGen plan fits which use
Credits you need each month = minutes of each avatar model times its rate, plus each generated clip at its flat cost, plus room for retakes. Pick the smallest plan or Pro tier above that number.
- Trying HeyGen out: Free. Up to three short videos a month is enough to judge the avatars and voices.
- A solo creator making talking-head videos: Creator. 600 credits cover 37.5 minutes of Avatar IV with a photo look or 12.5 minutes of Avatar V. Pay yearly if you are sure: at 4.0 cents a credit, no self-serve plan below 10,000 credits a month is cheaper per credit.
- Ads with B-roll, 4K or Seedance-powered Video Agent: Pro, sized by the formula above. For example, 20 minutes of Avatar IV photo look (320 credits) plus 10 Veo 3 clips (900 credits) needs 1,220 credits: the 1,500-credit tier at $74.
- A team working in one shared workspace: Business, and budget top-ups at $5 per 100 credits if 1,500 is not enough.
- Training, SCORM, SSO or security reviews at scale: Business or Enterprise.
- A legacy Unlimited subscriber using mostly Avatar III: keep your plan and keep it paid.
Is HeyGen worth it? For presenter-led video it is strong value: on Creator a minute of Avatar IV costs $0.77 to $1.50, one script can be translated into 175+ languages and dialects, and videos can run 30 minutes, or 60 on Business. It is a weaker fit when the product itself has to be the star of a short ad, which is where the next section comes in. When a product-ad tool is the better buy
HeyGen prices a presenter by the minute. It does have a Product Placement feature that puts your product in an avatar's hands, but if what you sell needs to be worn, unboxed or demonstrated in a real setting, you pay for the avatar by the minute and for each generated clip on top. A tool built around the product can be simpler to budget.

Stay with HeyGen if your videos are a presenter explaining something, you need a finished video translated and lip-synced into many languages, or you need videos longer than 90 seconds.

We read HeyGen's pricing page with both billing toggles, both the For Individuals and For Businesses tabs, and every tier in the Pro credits menu, one by one. Costs per minute, per ad and per credit are our own arithmetic from HeyGen's published rates: credits per minute times the length, times the plan's price per credit. HeyGen's own example prorates a 30-second scene at half the per-minute rate, and we did the same. HeyGen says actual usage can vary by feature, model, duration or generation type, so treat our figures as estimates before retakes and check the cost the app shows before you generate. If you cancel or switch to a credit plan, you cannot go back.
How many credits does a HeyGen video use?
It depends on the model and the length. Per minute, HeyGen's help center lists 4 credits for Avatar III with a video look, 7 with a photo look, 16 or 31 for Avatar IV, 48 for Avatar V, 40 for Video Agent in standard mode and 120 in Seedance mode. A 30-second Avatar V ad works out at about 24 credits. Generated clips cost a flat 60 credits (Seedance 2 at 720p), 150 (at 1080p) or 90 (Veo 3), whatever their length.
Do HeyGen credits roll over?
Yes, for a limited time. On monthly billing, unused credits roll over for one more billing cycle, so they last up to about 60 days. On yearly billing, credits arrive every month and build up until the annual renewal date. If you cancel and move to the Free plan, unused credits do not carry over.
Can I buy extra HeyGen credits?
Only on Business, where extra credits cost $5 per 100 ($0.05 each) and auto-reload is available. Creator users have to upgrade to Pro, and Pro users move to a higher Pro tier. An upgrade mid-cycle charges the price difference and adds the extra credits straight away.
Is HeyGen free?
There is a Free plan, and it needs no card. The pricing page says 3 videos a month and the help center says 1 to 3 free videos depending on your region, each up to 1 minute, with limited trial access to Avatar IV, Video Agent and lip-sync translation.
